Ironman 70.3 rapperswil-jona Switzerland
Flying into Zurich the first thing you notice is the green countryside and mountain views of Switzerland, the drive into Rapperswil-Jona shows much more of the same and is topped off by stunning views of Lake Zurich. On the Saturday I spent some time familiarising myself with the Ironman course including the lake swim and the town itself. Early Sunday I was up with the competitors and ready to capture the race which took up most of the day. An Ironman 70.3, or half Ironman, includes a 1.9km swim in Lake Zurich followed by a 90km bike ride taking them up Witches Hill on both laps and finishes off with a 21.1km run... a half marathon. By far the longest race I have supported and one of the hottest too with temperatures rising above 30 degrees during the early afternoon. As well as taking photos of Rob Parry and Stuart Riddle who I traveled out to Switzerland with, I also met up with some of the Ful-On-Tri club from Fulham who managed to bring a huge following of more than 40 competitors, so I also took the opportunity to catch as many of them as I could on camera too.
